End of Summer in Ridgewood, NJ: 10 Ways to Make the Most of These Days

Soak Up the Last Days of Summer in Ridgewood, NJ

There is something special about the end of summer in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The pace of the season begins to slow, the evenings are still warm, and there is just enough time left to squeeze in a few more family adventures, outdoor activities, leisurely dinners, and afternoons exploring the community.

For those of us who live in and around Ridgewood, the beauty of late summer is that you don’t have to travel far to enjoy it. From a Sunday morning at the Ridgewood Farmer’s Market to an afternoon at Graydon Pool, a walk around the Ridgewood Duck Pond, or dinner and shopping in the Ridgewood Central Business District, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the final weeks of summer.

As local Ridgewood real estate professionals, The Gubb Team loves highlighting the lifestyle that makes Ridgewood such a wonderful place to call home. Here are some of our favorite ways to enjoy the end of summer in Ridgewood and the surrounding Bergen County area.

1. Start Your Sunday Morning at the Ridgewood Farmer’s Market

Ridgewood Farmer’s Market is a quintessential Ridgewood summer tradition. Located near the Ridgewood train station in Garber Square, the seasonal market is a great place to pick up fresh produce and locally made goods while enjoying the energy of the community.

Late summer is an especially wonderful time to visit, when New Jersey produce is at its peak. Pick up ingredients for a weekend dinner, grab something delicious for breakfast, or simply stroll through the market and see what’s new.

The market is also an easy starting point for a larger downtown Ridgewood morning. After shopping, continue into the Central Business District for coffee, browsing, lunch, or a little retail therapy.

Tip: Market schedules and vendor offerings can change, so check current information before heading out.

2. Spend a Summer Afternoon at Graydon Pool

Graydon Pool is one of the most distinctive recreational amenities in Ridgewood.

Unlike a traditional backyard-style swimming pool, Graydon has a memorable beach-like setting that makes a summer afternoon feel like a mini vacation without leaving town. It’s a favorite destination for families looking to swim, relax, and spend time outdoors.

According to the Village of Ridgewood, the 2026 Graydon Pool season runs through August 30, with additional dates September 5–7, and daily hours are scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

If you haven’t made it to Graydon yet this summer, the final weeks of the season are the perfect excuse.

3. Take a Walk Around the Ridgewood Duck Pond

For a quieter outdoor outing, head to the Wild Duck Pond Area of Saddle River County Park.

Saddle River County Park – Wild Duck Pond Area offers a scenic setting for walking, spending time outdoors, and enjoying the natural beauty of Bergen County. The area connects to the larger Saddle River County Park system, which features a multi-use path extending for approximately six miles through several park areas.

For families, the nearby Wild Duck Pond Playground makes this an especially easy destination when kids need some room to run and play.

It’s also a popular spot for dog owners, with an off-leash dog area nearby.

Our favorite idea: Go early in the morning or around sunset, when the temperatures are more comfortable and the park has a particularly peaceful feel.

4. Explore Ridgewood’s Central Business District

One of Ridgewood’s greatest assets is its walkable downtown.

The Ridgewood Central Business District offers the kind of shopping and dining experience that has become increasingly rare: locally owned businesses, independent retailers, restaurants, cafés, and services all within a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly community.

Make an afternoon of it. Browse the boutiques, pick up something for the house, stop for coffee, and finish with dinner.

Downtown Ridgewood is also conveniently centered around the NJ TRANSIT station, making it easy to combine a train ride with an afternoon of shopping and dining.

5. Make Dinner a Summer Event

End-of-summer dining doesn’t have to mean an elaborate night out. One of the best things about Ridgewood is the variety of restaurants available throughout the downtown area.

For a special evening, consider Sola Osteria for elevated Italian dining, Roots Steakhouse for a classic steakhouse experience, or Lula for seasonal New American cuisine.

For a more casual downtown meal, Park West Tavern offers an upscale-casual atmosphere right in the heart of Ridgewood.

The best part? Dinner can easily be paired with a stroll through downtown before or afterward.

6. Enjoy an Evening Concert or Outdoor Event

Ridgewood’s summer calendar adds another dimension to the community’s warm-weather lifestyle.

The Village hosts outdoor music and community events throughout the summer, including the Kasschau Memorial Shell Summer Concert Series at Veterans Memorial Field and Live Music in the Park at Memorial Park at Van Neste Square. The Village’s 2026 calendar lists multiple summer performances.

Even when a particular concert has passed, it’s worth checking the Village calendar for upcoming events and community programming.

There is something wonderfully old-fashioned about bringing a chair or blanket to an outdoor concert and enjoying live music with neighbors on a summer evening.

7. Make the Most of Ridgewood’s Parks and Green Spaces

You don’t need a major event on the calendar to enjoy Ridgewood outdoors.

Take a walk through one of the Village’s parks, let the kids play, meet a friend for a stroll, or simply find a shady spot to enjoy a book.

The combination of parks, recreational facilities, mature trees, and pedestrian-friendly streets is one of the reasons Ridgewood feels so livable throughout the year—and especially during the summer.

8. Create a Ridgewood “Last Weekend of Summer” Tradition

Sometimes the best memories come from simple traditions.

Create your own end of summer Ridgewood ritual:

Morning: Visit the Farmer’s Market
Late morning: Walk or play at the Duck Pond
Afternoon: Head to Graydon Pool
Early evening: Go home to freshen up
Evening: Shop downtown and enjoy dinner at a Ridgewood restaurant

You don’t need to plan a major trip to make the last days of summer memorable. A full day spent enjoying your own community can feel like a vacation in itself.
